Responsibilities & expectations
A few things to take care of and bring with you, so your stay can start on solid ground. We cover these in our FAQs too - here they are in one place.
Getting a few practical things in place before your intake date helps you settle in and focus on healing. Please review the responsibilities below, and prepare what you can ahead of time.
Individual responsibilities
Personal hygiene products - body wash, toothpaste and toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner, hairbrush or comb, deodorant, shaving gear, and feminine hygiene products.
Suitable, seasonal clothing and appropriate footwear for both indoor and outdoor activities. No revealing clothing, or clothing with inappropriate graphics.
For the sweat:
Female - a skirt or shorts and a T-shirt.
Male - shorts and a T-shirt.
Eyeglasses and dentures, if required.
A bankcard or credit card for personal expenses, and to purchase enough cigarettes to last the duration of the program.
If you take prescribed medication, ensure you have enough of the prescription and refills to last while in the program.
Ensure all medical and dental health needs have been addressed before attending treatment.
Keep a valid Health Card and Status Card in your possession for any possible medical needs.
Ensure all bills are paid before entering the program, or arrange for someone to pay them for you, and advise staff of any outstanding obligations.
Make arrangements with your employer, Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program, and Employment Insurance benefits.
Ensure your rent is paid.
Inform your Probation Officer of your attendance at a treatment program.
Ensure court dates have been rescheduled for any outstanding charges, or arrange legal representation.
Ensure children, elders, or any other dependents are cared for by a trusted and responsible family member or close friend.
Ensure any family services involved with your family are aware of your attendance at the treatment facility.
Ensure pets will be cared for by a trusted and responsible individual.
Over-the-counter medication.
iPads, tablets, or laptops.
Personal vehicles.
Any item that could be considered dangerous or a weapon.
Please note: Personal possessions of value should be left at home. Benbowopka Treatment Centre is not responsible for, and will not replace, any valuables that are misplaced, lost, or stolen. Benbowopka does not provide spending money, cigarettes, postage stamps, or envelopes.
The referral process
We accept referrals from individuals, or from community professionals and helpers who are assisting someone to find residential treatment for their addiction. Complete all of the information on the referral form, and it will be sent to one of our intake workers, who will contact you about the next steps in the referral process.
